My Worldview

What is your worldview? Do you ever wonder why people behave the way they do? Would it be that they behave based on what they believe. Let’s try to define what a world view is, tell you what I believe and discuss options for later. Here we go:

Let’s define a worldview for our discussion as a set of presuppositions or assumptions which you could hold consciously or subconsciously about the makeup of world or the society you live in and you apply it to your life and for the most part behave accordingly.

Just watch television. The drama, performance, story line is written and played out from a worldview. The movies, music, magazines, newspapers, education are affected by a world view.

In his book, The Universe Next Door, James Sire identifies the most dominant. They are:

  • Christian Theism (Biblical Worldview)

  • Deism

  • Naturalism

  • Nihilism

  • Existentialism

  • Eastern Pantheism

  • New Age or New Consciousness

I personally hold to a biblical world view. Let me highlight this view:

  • Absolute moral truth exist

  • This truth is defined by the Bible

  • It is confirmed in six specific views:

1) Jesus Christ lived a sinless life.
2) God is the all-powerful and all-knowing Creator of the universe and He still rules.
3) Salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned.
4) Satan is real.
5) A follow of Jesus Christ has a responsibility to share their faith with other people.
6) The Bible is accurate in all of its teachings.

A New Chapter

If you had a second chance on life what would you do?

Last year I survived cancer and several hospitalizations. This sort of experience really gets a man thinking about life and death. I know that I won't live forever. Even after many years in ministry this gets me thinking about eternity. It also makes a man think about his life and the impact he will leave. I feel like I have been given a second chance. I also just held my first grandchild in my arms—a powerful experience.

I am 60 years old but my grandson is only a few weeks old. I want to invest myself—my faith, my wisdom, my perspective—into my children and grandchildren, but not just my own "flesh and blood" I also feel a burden to speak my mind to the upcoming generations. That is how this blog was born. I want to share my mind with you.

This is not a publication of Promise Keepers. This is a personal publication of my own thoughts, my vision, my heart. Given that my ministry is to men, I will often discuss men's issues but I hope to also discuss culture, ethics, race, justice, Christianity, politics, business, news headlines, etc. in the light of the truths I know. I may not be the most eloquent man (my training is in business) but I will speak genuinely about what matters to me. These are the thoughts I want to leave to the world...
